Hello, and thank you for finding me here!

My name is Eliza and I started Morbid Curiosities in 2022. My business is centered around my "passion project" of creating artwork from discarded objects. I also make silly greeting cards, stickers, and other trinkets to help me earn my booth fees back at craft fairs. πŸ˜‰ I suppose the real purpose of this website is art promotion, but I am excited to have a blog component where I can write about all of my weird interests, including but not limited to!: Ghosts - Cemeteries - Nature - Myths & Legends - Art & History - Anything Weird or Spooky - and all types of Magic. ✨

People often ask what inspired me to start this venture, and the answer might seem a little silly: I saw an earring on the ground a parking lot.

I was waiting with a group of people to go into a restaurant, when I saw something sparkly and my mind started to wander. I stood there looking at this tiny piece of costume jewelry that was already a bit scratched – nobody was coming back for it, and it was doomed to rattle around as litter or wind up in the trash. I wished there was a reason to preserve it and celebrate its imperfect beauty.  Like a beetle in a shadowbox. HEY, WAIT A SECOND! I saw a million possibilities all at once, and knew I couldn't waste that kind of inspiration.

I have a degree in art from a long time ago, but until this point, I didn't do much with it. I had some abstract ideas and dabbled here and there, but nothing concrete or significant. In hindsight, I think I struggled with the loss of the structured school environment, with its projects, deadlines, and goals. Nowadays, I feel like life has assigned me a project.

One of my biggest inspirations is a semi-famous artist who I will not name, because it's important to explain that I don't like their work at all. πŸ˜‚The only nice thing I can say is that their art is easily recognizable, which actually turns out to be a huge compliment. This artist has also achieved a level of success that I can only dream of. Looking at them has taught me that it's okay if some people don't like your work; plenty of others will if you're willing and able to put yourself out there and find them. There are days when doing this is really hard, mentally, physically, socially, and financially, but I find peace in the fact that I am making something that is 100% un-apologetically 'me.'

I hope you will join me on my art journey and check back here from time to time, and I hope you find my content interesting and engaging! Drop me a line if you have questions about anything I make or do – I would love to hear from you.
